Welcome to the Open Seat podcast! On today's episode we introduce ourselves and our vision for this podcast. We discuss where we came up with the idea for this podcast, why studying Koine Greek has been so valuable to us, and our structure for the podcast moving forward.
2
On today's episode we begin laying the groundwork for future conversations. We present a brief history of the Koine Greek language, discuss the inspiration of Scripture, explain what manuscripts are, and provide a general overview of different types of errors that occur in the Greek manuscripts.
3
We discuss the qualities and characteristics of good Bible translations, different goals and interpretations of translation groups which lead to a spectrum of English Bible translations, and we end by providing four examples of similarities and differences in various English translations as they work to capture the original meaning of the Greek.
4
We briefly discuss Greek verbs, nouns, and the syntax of sentences in biblical manuscripts. We also begin our study of 1 John, the first letter written by the apostle John to the Church. We discuss John's use of the past tense forms, the fellowship believers share with God, and John's motivation for writing the letter.

In this episode, we welcome our first guest and former classmate, Maegan Gunner! Maegan joins us to introduce verbal aspect theory, using the research she collected during her time at Colorado Christian University. Together with Maegan, we discuss her findings, examine the benefits of verbal aspect theory, and recognize the danger in over-emphasizing verbal aspect in every situation.

We continue our study of the book of 1 John, but before jumping into the study, we discuss the different moods in Greek verbs, focusing on the subjunctive. We then apply our understanding of the subjunctive to the passage as John introduces several key themes of his letter: first, that God is light, and second, if we walk in the light, God is faithful to forgive us our sins.

In this episode, we welcome special guest Rachel Reagor! Rachel is one of our former Greek classmates and currently works at CCU and Storyline Church. Together, we discuss the works of the apostle John, looking at several unifying themes across his writings to increase our understanding throughout our future study of 1 John.
